Bonnie Beach, Ph.D. - Dean of Education
|
Bonnie Beach, Ph.D., Professor of Education, has served as Dean of Education for Ohio Dominican since July 2005. Prior to joining Ohio Dominican, Dr. Beach served as associate dean for Undergraduate Programs and Student Services in Ohio University’s College of Education. She also served as a faculty member at Ohio University for 15 years, teaching mathematics education and curriculum change courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Dr. Beach has 16 years of P-12 experience, serving as the supervisor of Mathematics K-12 for the Wood County School System (WV) and as a mathematics and science teacher in public schools in Ohio.
Dr. Beach is the current president of the Ohio Council of Teachers of Mathematics and the Ohio Association of Colleges of Teacher Education. She is also a member of the American Educational Research Association, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, and the Ohio Mathematics Education Leadership Council.
Dr. Beach holds a B.S. in Mathematics and Science Education from The Ohio State University; an M.Ed. in Mathematics Education from Ohio University; and a Ph.D. in Mathematics Education from Ohio University. She has completed post-doctoral coursework in Educational Administration and has completed the Management Development Program at Harvard University.

Ted Zigler, Ed.D. – Coordinator of Online M.Ed. Program
|
Ted Zigler, Ed.D., Assistant Professor of Education, is the Director of Ohio Dominican’s Master of Education and Online Master of Education programs.
Dr. Zigler has over 30 years of service in public education, with 17 years as a middle and high school principal and assistant superintendent. In 2001, he was honored as Ohio’s Principal of the Year by the Ohio Association of Secondary School Administrators. He most recently served as an assistant professor of education for the University of Cincinnati.
He also assisted in the development and creation of the Executive Leadership Institute and Superintendent Licensure Program in Cincinnati, a mixed method of an on-campus summer institute and online learning for working principals and district office personnel.
Dr. Zigler holds a bachelor’s degree in Comprehensive Science Education from the University of Toledo; a master’s degree in Guidance and Counseling from the University of Toledo; and an Ed.D. in Educational Administration from the University of Cincinnati. He currently serves on the Mid-Western Educational Research Association Program Committee and is the 2007-2008 president of the Ohio Council of Professors of Educational Administration.

Hope Benton-Borghi, Ph.D. - Coordinator of Traditional M.Ed. Program
|
Dr. Hope Benton-Borghi, Ph.D., most recently was a visiting lecturer at The Ohio State University while working on her doctorate. She has written and directed many educational grant projects and has 11 years of experience teaching chemistry at the high school level in the United States and Germany. The Kathryn Borghi Digital Library, Dr. Benton-Borghi’s model for an accessible and universally designed digital library for P-12 schools, has been implemented in the New Albany Plain Local School District and the Upper Arlington City School District to honor the memory of her daughter, Kathryn.
Dr. Benton-Borghi’s dissertation research resulted in the development of two new Efficacy scales: Teachers’ Sense of Inclusion Efficacy, I-TSES and Collective Inclusion Efficacy published in Benton-Borghi, B. H. (2006). Teaching every student in the 21st century: Teacher efficacy and technology. Dissertation Abstracts. Section A, Volume Issue 67-07. Publisher: Proquest Information and Learning
Dr. Benton-Borghi is collaborating with Dr. Robert Hite at Ohio State University in the research: A Study of the Attitudes, Efficacy, Collective Efficacy, and Perceptions of Entry-Year Teachers Regarding Teaching, Inclusion, and the Use of Technology in Teaching.
She is a member of the American Association of University Women, the American Education Research Association, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the Consortium for School Networking, the Council for Exceptional Children, the International Society for Technology in Education, and the Ohio Confederation of Teacher Education Organization.
She holds a B.A. in Chemistry from Massachusetts State College (now called Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts); an M.Ed. in Secondary Education from Boston University; an M.A. in Teacher Education at Education Policy and Leadership from The Ohio State University; and a Ph.D. in Teacher Education at Education Policy and Leadership in the College of Education and Human Ecology from The Ohio State University.

Young Mi Chang, Ph.D. - Assistant Professor of Education
|
Young Mi Chang, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Education, was a post doctoral researcher and research fellow at Ball State University. She also served as an assistant professor of Early Childhood Education at Bethel College (IN).
Dr. Chang’s research interests include the integration of technology in early childhood curriculum; service learning in teacher education; multicultural education curriculum; and social pretend play in early childhood. Some of her published articles and presentations include “Understanding Diversity: Integration of Service Learning in an Early Childhood Education Course”; Age-Appropriateness of the Manipulation and Operation Techniques Required for Use of Handheld Computers in a Kindergarten Classroom”; and “Enhancing Multicultural Understanding Through Videoconferencing.”
She holds a B.S. in Child and Family Studies from Yonsei University (Seoul, Korea); a master’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Ball State University; and a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from Purdue University.

Matthew Conley,Ph.D. - Assistant Professor of Education
|
Dr. Matthew Conley is an Assistant Professor of Education.
Dr. Conley has taught in Early and Middle Childhood Education for the Bucyrus (OH) City School system.
He holds a B.S. in Early and Middle Childhood Education and a M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction, both from The Ohio State University. His doctoral work focused on the Equity and Diversity Issue in Teacher Preparation and Literacy Education.
He has received numerous awards, including the Oscar Wilde-Gertrude Stein Scholarship, the Schoenbaum Scholarship, and the Harold C. Miles Fellowship.

Sr. JoAnn Hohenbrink, O.P., Ph.D - Associate Professor of Education
|
Sr. JoAnn Hohenbrink, O.P., Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of Education. Her fields of specialization include Education, Educational Administration, Social Studies/Foundations in Education and Middle Childhood Education.
She holds a B.A. in Education from Ohio Dominican College; an M.Ed. in Administration from the University of Dayton; and a Ph.D. in Early and Middle Childhood Education from The Ohio State University.

John Mascazine, Ph.D. - Associate Professor of Education
|
John Mascazine, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Education, was a classroom teacher for 12 years at the elementary, middle and high school levels. His specialization is Science Education and the integration of Mathematics, Science and Technology Education. His research areas of interest are Learning Styles of Twins and Multiple Birth Children, their school experiences, and teaching science through active experiences. Dr. Mascazine has presented at local, national and international conferences and continues to write and publish for educational journals. He regularly attends conferences such as the School Science and Mathematics Association (SSMA), National Association of Researchers in Science Teaching (NARST), National Science Teachers Association (NSTA), and the International Society for Twin Studies (ISTS). He is also active in presenting workshops for teachers and parents.
Dr. Mascazine holds a B.S. in Education from Ohio Dominican College with a license to teach grades 1-8; a master’s degree in Science Education from The Ohio State University; and a Ph.D. in Science Education, also from OSU.

Virginia McCormack, Ed.D. - Associate Professor of Education
|
Virginia McCormack, Ed.D., is an Associate Professor of Education. She works with diverse students in all of the Education programs. She is a certified/licensed P-12 classroom teacher and administrator.
Dr. McCormack most recently served as chair of Ohio Dominican University’s Education Division and director of its M.Ed. program. She participates on university committees; has received several grants; and develops curricular programs and endorsements for undergraduate and graduate studies.
She holds a B.S. in Education from St. Bonaventure University; an M.S. in Educational Administration from the University of Dayton; an M.A. in Pastoral Ministry from St. Joseph College; and an Ed.D. from Nova Southeastern University. She is a member of the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the International Reading Association, the National Middle School Association, the Ohio Council for Social Studies, and the National Council of Teachers of English.

Mary Lee Peck, Ph.D. - Professor Emerita of Education
|
Dr. Mary Lee Peck received her Ph.D. in Early and Middle Childhood Studies at The Ohio State University where she also did post-doctoral work in Higher Education Administration. She has a master’s degree in Guidance and Counseling and a B.S. in Education with a focus in Social Science and Spanish. Dr. Peck is currently licensed to teach preK through grades 12. She has more than 30 years of teaching experience and has authored children’s books and a textbook on the teaching of reading. Prior to coming to Ohio Dominican, Dr. Peck taught in urban and suburban public schools in Cleveland, Cincinnati, Columbus and Worthington. She also founded and directed a multi-site preschool and childcare center, and an independent, chartered K-8 school.
At Ohio Dominican University, Dr. Peck served as chair of the Education Division, dean of the School of Continuing Studies, chair of the Academic Assessment Committee, and as a full professor in the Education Division. She currently holds the rank of Professor Emeritus.

ODU undergraduate students engage in a variety of field experiences, including student teaching and community service. This face-to-face interaction with children and parents prepares our students to successfully teach in public urban and suburban, as well as private school settings.
Undergraduate graduates are also well-positioned for success in the job market. Ohio Dominican University has consistently been rated as effective by the Ohio Department of Education in the annual Report on the Quality of Teacher Education in Ohio.
